A tour through the outlying townships of Cape Town will provide visitors with a unique insight into the lives of many South Africans and the history of Apartheid. Most tours last for half a day and some agents also offer the opportunity to spend the night in a local Bed and Breakfast. It is not advised that visitors enter the townships without a guide, but a number of trained locals are available and one should not struggle to find a willing escort. Tours take you to see the many community areas and projects such as the District Six Museum and the colourful streets of Bo-Kaap.
